Facebook has launched an initiative dubbed “Boost With Facebook” to help equip small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Kenya with digital marketing skills that will help them grow their businesses and take them to the next level.
To make this training possible and successful, Facebook is working with Wylde International — a local firm that develops businesses — to train 3,000 entrepreneurs across four Kenyan Cities: Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa on how to they can use the Facebook family of apps – Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp for business success.
“We are enabling local businesses to use social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram to unlock new business opportunities and compete at a Pan-African and global level. This is a global program that Facebook runs to arm businesses with the right digital tools to help you increase the visibility and add value to your business and target customers that you would not otherwise have access to,” Facebook Head of Public Policy, East Africa, Mercy Ndegwa, said yesterday.
The training kickstarted this week in Nairobi to train a team of digital marketers who will in turn train the various SMEs across the country.
The training is free and open to any interested SMEs, with Wylde International indicating that the firm had already started receiving applicants.
“Entrepreneurship plays an integral role in driving Kenya’s economy and providing economic opportunities for Kenyans. Globally, we have more than 1.6 billion people connected to small or medium-sized businesses on Facebook,” she said.

The launch event also featured testimonials by entrepreneurs who have been using the boost product. “Once I started boosting on Facebook, the calls started coming in. I even started receiving calls from abroad of people who had seen my business on Facebook,” said Jackie Ominde, who runs Jakizz Catering.
